Training

TrainingThe Active Communities Network delivers education, learning and workforce training programmes for staff and participants at our own projects and for partner organisations.

Training and development is increasingly used as a means of engaging young people in social inclusion initiatives. Active Communities underpins the effectiveness of this approach by training coaches to better engage young people and communities, and developing the young people and participants as skilled volunteers and peer mentors.

Active Communities ensures that our training programmes fit strategically across both the community sports and young people’s workforce. We work with Skills Active, Skills for Justice, the Children and Young Peoples Workforce Group and Pro Active to embed the programme into national workforce strategies. We are an approved assessment centre at the NOCN, 1st4Sport, ASDAN and Sports Leaders UK.

Training areas include accredited coach development, youth work and employability courses, and non accredited professional development courses that address day to day challenges that community based workers face. We recently developed and will soon be launching a new Sport Tackling Youth Crime qualification with 1st4sport for example.

The progression and further development of participants is central to the success of our training programmes. We therefore work with partner organisations and National Governing Bodies for Sport to provide access to apprenticeships and UKCC coaching qualifications.
