SSCN London – Delivering genuine social change through sport
The purpose of SSCN London is to build partnerships and coordinate efforts to accelerate the growth and increase the quality and sustainability of the sport for social change movement in London.
This is a unique initiative that has been developed by four founding partners –the Community Action Zone, Nike, the Mayor of London and Active Communities Network, – with the intention of ensuring that Londoners of all ages and abilities have easy access to a range of sporting opportunities. It was borne out of a shared belief in the power of sport to make a difference to peoples’ lives; and also by a commitment to helping the thousands of people and organisations who dedicate their time and effort to creating sporting opportunity for others.
The key objectives of SSCN London are:
-
To increase the amount and range of sporting opportunity in London
-
To ensure that local delivery of activity reflects local needs
-
To support local organisations and assist them to develop more sustainable ways of working and to increase local capacity
-
To ensure that sporting opportunity is multigenerational and available to all
-
To build up a robust evidence base demonstrating the power of sport as an instrument of social change
SSCN London is now operating in six boroughs – Brent, Croydon, Hackney, Lambeth, Southwark and Sutton. Our goal is to see a SSCN established in every London borough, responding to local needs, supporting local organisations and sitting at the centre of a genuine community sports legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
SSCN London is managed by a programme director based at the Community Action Zone, with local delivery driven by the Active Communities Network and locally appropriate service providers.
