Projects & Partnerships

Initially developed via a partnership of projects with roots in the Active Communities initiatives launched by Sport England in the late 1990’s, and formalising our status as an organisation and a charity (initially as London Active Communities) in 2007, Active Communities Network has gone from strength to strength. Our infrastructure, portfolio of services, geographical reach and range of partners now covers the local, regional, national and international arenas. However, our ethos and methodology remains committed to developing communities and young people through the use of neighbourhood based sports and cultural activities.

As the range of services delivered has grown we have built a solid range of strategic, funding and delivery partners who have supported both our vision and work, and with whom we work to deliver the highest possible standard of service to our project participants. These partners and funders include the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, The Home Office, the Premier League / Premier League Charitable Fund, Co-Operation Ireland, Skills Active, Nike, Play Sport London, Sport England and Barclays / ABSA Spaces for Sport among others.

Active Communities Network has a staff team delivering services within socio – economically deprived communities and to young people in general in a number of cities and regions in the UK and Ireland. All our projects deliver across a number of agendas, and address a range of social issues including:

  • Outreach and community engagement programmes
  • Sports participation
  • Community Cohesion and Social Inclusion
  • Youth Crime and Anti-Social behaviour
  • Personal and Social Development
  • Citizenship and Volunteering
  • Education and training
  • Employment and Enterprise

Our core programmes currently delivered across a number of geographic regions are highlighted here.
