Projects

The Active Communities Network has a national and international network of projects directly delivered by our own project staff, delivered in partnership with like minded organisations or overseen by our programme managers as part of a wider consortium of strategic and delivery agencies.

London Active Communities

London Active Communities is the regional brand for our directly managed and delivered projects in London. Our portfolio of projects in the capital include the Breaking Barriers programme, using sport to promote community cohesion, the Urban Stars project, Sport and Social Change Networks, Gamechangers, HOOPZ and the Positive Futures project in Brent.

South West of England

2nd ChanceThe Active Communities Network partnership in the South West of England is led by the Bristol based Second Chance organisation. Our activity in the South West is primarily concerned with accreditation, training and employment pathways for the most excluded a disadvantaged client groups. Working with young offenders, excluded pupils and referred young adults our projects deliver within prisons and youth offending facilities as well as in community based programmes. Active Communities Network also worked with Skills Active South West to pilot new apprenticeship frameworks.

West Midlands

The Active Communities Network in the West Midlands is built around the Fight For Change Foundation, established by former WBC world middleweight champion and media commentator Richie Woodhall. Our programme in the West Midlands is built around the Urban Stars project, using boxing and sports participation programmes to address youth offending in Birmingham, and the Gamechangers volunteering and accreditation programme centred on Coventry and Birmingham but working across the region.

Northern Ireland and Ireland

Active Communities Network Northern Ireland is based in Belfast, and works with strategic and delivery partners to embed personal development, leadership skills, accreditation and training in cross community projects across the province. We are also working with funding partners from the Republic of Ireland and England and Wales to deliver cross border programmes and build community cohesion and understanding.

South Africa and Africa

Working with the exercise teachers academy (eta), Western Province Cricket Club and a number of local project partners, Active Communities Network has developed and continues to support and grow the local Positive Futures Cape Town and new Breaking Barriers community cohesion programme in the Western Cape. Our involvement in the region is to support and grow local delivery by delivering workforce training programmes and advising on programme and organisational development. More recently this support and input has been expanded to other countries in Africa, including Kenya and the Gambia.
