Since 2007 Active Communities Network has increasingly been involved in the international sport for development sector, providing a range of services including project delivery, needs analysis, training, conference presentation and evaluation. This has included our staff travelling overseas to deliver services, and acting as hosts for overseas projects and partners undertaking fact finding visits and exchanges in the UK.
In the case of Northern Ireland / Ireland and South Africa the volume and scope of work has led to us setting up branches of Active Communities Network, with local staff, to drive local partnerships, programmes and evaluations. For further information and links to local websites please go to:
Other work is time limited and often delivered on a contractual basis for our strategic and funding partners. Highlights of our work in this arena have included:
Establishing a Positive Futures project in Cape Town on behalf of UK Sport, including project set up, training, ongoing support, quality assurance and reporting. Locally our staff worked with Western Province Cricket Club, Childline / Lifeline and local staff to deliver a cricket based project tackling substance misuse in local communities and townships. Developing an academically recognised curriculum for the Nobel Peace Prize nominated MYSA project in Kenya as part of our partnership with Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Read about MYSA.
Delivering needs analysis, developing bespoke training materials and delivering train the trainer packages as part of the Premier Skillz programme – an international development programme owned by the Premier League and British Council – in India, Indonesia and Brazil.
